Frequently Asked Questions
This will give me a chance to answer some common questions about our classroom and school.
1. What are classroom hours?
Arrival is from 7:30-7:50. Arrival after 7:50 will be considered a tardy. After 8:10, students will not be allowed to stay without a doctor's note.
Departure is from 2:00-2:20. Departure after 2:20 will be considered Late Pick-Up.
2. What is Pitt County Schools/Bethel Pre-k's attendance policy?
We are not a drop-in child care center, therefore we have strict attendance policy. Good attendance means being on time and staying the whole instructional day. PCS recognizes nine valid/lawful excuses for being absent, tardy or dismissed early from school. Early dismissals without a valid note are counted as unexcused tardies.

3. What do I do if my child is absent?
Families must send in notes with explanations for student absences. If a note is NOT sent in, the absence will be recorded at Unexcused. Students absent for one day for illness will be excused with a parent note. Students absent two or more days for illness will need a doctor's note for an excused absence. Students with 8 or more uexcused absences due to illness may be requred to start providing doctor's notes. Documentation (court order, appointment slip, etc.) is necessary for excused absences 2-9.
Unexcused Absence Consequences:
3 - Teacher will contact parent/guardian
6-9 - Social Worker referral
10-11 - Parent/Guardian mediation with administrator
12 - Consideration for removal from program
4. What do I do if my child is late or needs to be picked up early?
Students must be in class before the Tardy Bell rings and stay until the release bell. Students arriving 20 minutes after the Tardy Bell will NOT be admitted to class that day. Parents will be provided instructional activities for their child to complete at home. Families will provide the same documentation required for excused absences. Parents should bring appointment notes when picking up children early. All early dismissals without a valid note are counted as unexcused tardies.
Unexcused Tardiness & Early Dismissals Consequences

5. How can I stay informed about classroom activities?
Every day your child will bring home a communication folder. All of our important handouts and updates will be placed in this folder. Please check it every night and sign the daily communication sheet. Our classroom will also have a monthly newsletter to keep you informed and well as this website.
6. What does my child need for NCPK?
Your student will need a complete change of clothes to keep at school (accidents happen), a rest time blanket, and a backpack/bookbag to carry home the communication folder.
7. What does the Family Involvement policy for NCPK mean?
One requirement for NCPK is family involvement in the classroom. Families are required to attend two parent/teacher conferences and at least 4 family involvement activities. Our classroom is required to include at least one family involvement activity each month. This activity gives you a chance to participate in your child's learning. The family involvement project will either take place at school during a designated time, or we will send the project home for you to complete. We try to make these activities engaging as well as educational.
